Responsible Gaming

Decide the amount before you feel the pull to raise it

Settle on a figure before you start, treat that money as already spent, and stop when it is gone rather than adjusting the number once play is underway. A limit fixed in advance is easier to hold to than one decided in the moment, because the moment is exactly when the urge to stretch it is strongest. For the same reason, keep gambling money separate from money you have borrowed or need for anything else: mixing the two makes it much harder to see when you have actually gone past what you meant to risk.

Chasing a loss rarely does anything but produce a second loss, because the bet is then being driven by the wish to undo the first result rather than by any judgement about the game. Taking a break, even a short one, breaks that pattern and gives you a chance to notice whether you still want to continue. If gambling stops feeling like entertainment and starts feeling like something you need to do, say so to someone else early. Naming it to another person while it is still a small concern is far easier than dealing with it alone once it has grown.

Find the three help links on this page and every other

This page, like every page on this site, carries links to three independent gambling-help organisations: BeGambleAware, Gambling Therapy, and GamCare. They are the only links on the site that are not commercial: they carry no sponsored marking, they are set to nofollow, and they open in a separate tab on each organisation's own website. This site receives nothing when a reader follows one. Beyond being independent sources of help, nothing further about what each organisation does is described here.

The eighteen-and-over restriction stated throughout this build, including on the front page, applies to this page too. Nobody's age is verified on this site and no gambling takes place on it; any such check happens only at the destination a reader reaches after following an operator link.

Know what stays with the destination, not with this page

Controls such as deposit limits, loss limits, reality checks, cooling-off periods and self-exclusion are things a reader arranges inside an account at the destination reached after leaving this site. This build has no account, no form and no server-side application, so nothing published here can switch on, check, or enforce any of them. Everything a reader can actually do with money happens after leaving this site: each operator link redirects to a third party, and from that point the destination's own rules and account controls apply, not anything published here.

  • No advertising or behavioural profiling network runs on these pages, so nothing here is targeted at a reader based on risky behaviour.
  • Any control over your play lives in the account you hold at the destination site, not on this one.
